The Volkswagen Bus was invented by the maker of Volkswagen beetle around 1950 but survived until 1967 because its strong body and engine configurations, it was initially designed with big and extravagant body but with beetle chassis. In fact, all its engine components were designed based on Volks beetle configurations and it was seen as symbol of liberty for the Americans during the time, variously called the Transporter, Station Wagon, Kombi, and Micro Bus, later the Vanagon and EuroVan. The 1200 engine and the 40 horsepower capacities aroused the competitive instincts in the other car manufactures and the Chevrolet introduced similar model called Greenbrier Sports Wagon. However, the VW bus was adjudged the best bus with the superior quality both in external and internal appearances by Car life magazine in its September 1960 issue and Also, the best bus with the more efficient fresh air ventilation. Finally, 1968 was actually the year in which the VW bus was given a touch modern design.
